Thursday 12 September 2024 Homework Club The Homework Club begins on Monday, 16th September, and will run from 3:50 PM to 4:30 PM every Monday to Thursday in Room 17. This is open to 1st and 2nd-year students who would like a quiet space to complete their homework with support from peers or a teacher when needed.

Saturday 1 June 2024 House Trophy 2024 The winner of the 2024 House Trophy was Taheny House. Well done to all members of Taheny who received tokens for various activities during the year and contributed to their success. Pictures below include some members with the House leader-Ms.Thornton. The House system in Dominican College encourages and promotes a spirit of cooperation and inclusion in which every student is encouraged to be the best that they can be in all aspects of school life. The Houses are named after Dominican sisters who used their talents for the good of others. We are honoured and blessed to follow in their footsteps.

Friday 3 May 2024 Water Polo Champions Well done to Lana Awaja (3rd year), Muireann Carey (2nd year) and Hannah Rainey (2nd year) who played in the ‘Irish U15 (2009) Water Polo All Ireland Cup’ for Tribes Water Polo Club last weekend. They played teams from all around Ireland and won the cup in their final against Sandycove SC on Sunday - 28th of April, by a score of 20-3. Congratulations to them and their fellow team members on a wonderful victory.

Friday 26 April 2024 TY Hygiene Drive Over the few weeks the 4/3 TY class along with their teacher Ms. Murphy organised and ran a Hygiene Drive in the school to get donations and raise awareness of hygiene poverty and the work of the Hygiene Hub Galway.

Friday 26 April 2024 Anything But a School Bag Day Just before Easter, Ms Fannin’s 5th year LCVP class hosted a ‘Anything but a School Bag Day’ in aid of the LauraLynn foundation. The class chose to raise money for the LauraLynn foundation as their core values meant a lot to the group in particular. The charity provides palliative care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Wednesday 17 April 2024 Bronze for Ireland - European Olympiad of Experimental Science Congratulation to Stephanie Rimbi who was part of the Irish team at the European Olympiad of Experimental Science in Luxembourg last week. Only 6 students are chosen to represent Ireland every year, after three tough rounds of testing. Stephanie’s team were awarded a bronze medal in Luxembourg for their excellent scientific work. This has been a fantastic opportunity for Stephanie to develop her scientific skills and get to meet up with similar students from all over Europe.This is the third year in a row that a 5th year student from Dominican College has represented Ireland in this competition, with Melaniya Stolbova taking part in 2023, and Lucy Garrett taking part in in 2022.We are very proud of Stephanie’s achievement.

Wednesday 28 February 2024 TY student becomes youngest girl to receive her first Dan (black belt) in Judo Huge congratulations to Jena Deegan, a TY student, for earning her first Dan (black belt) in Judo last Sunday, February 25th. She's now the youngest girl in Ireland to achieve this milestone.

Friday 23 February 2024 Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement - Class of 2023 On Thursday 22nd of February, the Junior Cycle students of 2020 – 2023, who completed their Junior Cycle last June, received their JCPA (Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement) in school.

Monday 22 January 2024 VEX Robotics competition, ATU Galway, sponsored by Boston Scientific Last Thursday January 18th some 5th Year students took part in the VEX Robotics competition in ATU Galway, which was sponsored by Boston Scientific. This group of students had to design, build and code their own robot over the last few months, and then have it take part in a number of matches on the tournament day.

Tuesday 16 January 2024 1st Year Success at Galway Advertiser Christmas Art Competition Lena Convoy and Ailbhe Drimbarean in 1st year were winners in the U14 section of the Christmas Art Competition in the Galway Advertiser, and recently attended a prize giving ceremony with the Mayor of Galway, Mr. Eddie Hoare.The theme of the competition was ‘A Home for the Homeless’, and 1000’s of entries were received from all across Ireland.The winning entries were on display in the Galway City Library over the Christmas holidays, and can be viewed on The Galway Advertiser Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GalwayAdvertiser/photos_by

Friday 12 January 2024 BT Young Scientist TY's Ailish O'Halloran, Lily Hynes and Shaelin Howley and 2nd years Hannah Rainey and Nicole Lally have been doing a wonderful job representing the school at the BTYS exhibition in the RDS this week. They have been presenting their projects and meeting members of the public including Galway West TD Hildagarde Naughton.
